Ptl. Robert Yezzi – 28 years old

Died in the line of duty on 08/12/1980.
Off. Yezzi was killed on August 12, 1980 by a female driver at 0230 hours while he and Officer Tony Rihl made a pedestrian stop on Richlieu Road adjacent to the Youth Development Center in Bensalem Township. The male subject was an escapee from the Y.D.C and pulled a knife on the Officers. While struggling with him, a woman in the opposite Northbound lane struck Officer Yezzi killing him instantly and drug Officer Rihl several yards away critically injuring him. Rihl recovered and has since retired.

The below is information was obtained about Officer Yezzi through families and fellow officers.
He was known as Bob or Rob by his family and friends, grew up in Philadelphia and was a graduate of West Catholic High School. He then went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree from Villanova University. He served his country as a marine until he received an honorable discharge a few years later. Bob’s older sister, Josephine, said Bob always had a strong desire to serve. She said his heart was broken when his career as a marine had to end, but that his new job as a police officer soon became his passion. Josephine described her brother as warm hearted, peaceful, and someone who loved being a police officer. She said that even though she was Bob’s older sister, she was always in awe of him.
Bob was remembered as being ahead of his time and innovative. He was a patrol officer who also took on an active role in crime prevention. He was described by fellow officers Tony Rihl and Don Kueny as someone you could always count on, both on and off duty.
